O'Higgins - Ó hUigin - d'Eguino

Uí hUigin - Ó hUigin - O'Higgins - Higgins

Gone Now

Gone Now by James F. Higgins

Today I climbed.. that lone-some hill..,

and as I neared the top

A voice.. it spoke.. from deep with-in..,

    rest.. but never stop

A plain white bench stood empty..,

    I heard it whisper.. come

I wish that more would listen..,

    slow down.. don't always run

Well.. as I sat.. wind would gust..,

    leafs flew all around

Then to my right.. I noticed..,

    something on the ground

A tarnished plaque.. that thanked the few..,

    for Honor.. and their deeds

The few that did for brothers..,

    a-side was their own needs

A tree.. yes life.. they gave to us..,

    beauty.. all could see

But now what's left.. it's just a stump..,

    no longer stands that tree
